'GAY BRIGHTON' PRIDE 2011
FANCY ATTENDING BRIGHTON PRIDE 2011?
This year Summer PRIDE 2011 in 'Gay Brighton' & Hove takes place over a week from Saturday 6 August to Sunday 13 August 2011. (For full details see: http://www.brightonpride.org/festival-parade.php)
Brighton PRIDE 2011 has grown over the years to become a huge festival attended by over 100,000 people.
In any other year we would not hesitate to encourage you to consider attending for the Pride Parade and Main Event on Saturday 13 August 2011 (and maybe make a weekend of it!).
Both have been hugely colourful and great fun in the past but please note that new, expensive entry charges are being introduced in 2011 and there is considerable local controversy about the management and planning of Brighton PRIDE for 2011.
Normally the Brighton PRIDE 2011 Parade sets off from Madeira Drive at 11am for Preston Park where the Main Park Event is accessible from midday (about an hour before the Parade arrives, followed by thousands of people) with large music tents, lots of stalls, a Carnival, bars and other distractions - but please note the introduction of high gate prices and disagreement over the management and planning of Brighton PRIDE 2011 this year!
As the Main Park Event comes to an end around 8pm people either make their way home or head for the many bars (Gay and “straight”) which throw open their doors to Brighton PRIDE 2011 revellers. St James Street in Kemp Town (known as Brighton's "Gay Quarter" and "Gay Village") is usually closed to traffic to host a massive street party and clubs like Charles Street, Revenge, Legends and Wild Fruit ensure the partying continues through the night.
For those not nursing massive hangovers it can all start again on the Sunday with informal street parties in Kemp Town and various events.
Even on the Monday the terraces of many bars are still busy with people making new friends, swapping stories and enjoying the sunshine (fingers crossed).
If you are thinking of attending for one day only then we recommend you attend on Saturday 13 August 2011.
But why not stay over the long weekend for Brighton PRIDE 2011 and join in the fun from Friday to Monday?
And consider attending GMen Brighton either before or after the long weekend... making for one unforgettable week in Brighton next Summer?!
(Please Note - in previous years the Brighton PRIDE 2011 Parade and Main Event have normally taken place on the first Saturday of August however this year (2011) the event has been moved to the second Saturday 13 August 2011 to avoid a clash with the opening of the new Brighton Stadium.)
